MOTNC 2024
About The ORGANIZER
The Malaysian Occupational Therapy Association (OT MALAYSIA) is a professional independent and nonprofit organisation. Interest in the formation of the association started in the late sixties which led to its inauguration on 20 March 1969 with members who were all trained overseas mostly from Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and India. OT Malaysia became a full member of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) in 1990 after the College of Occupational Therapists in Kuala Lumpur Hospital was accredited by WFOT and the Malaysian Public Services Department.
The association aims to promote the profession and it supports the development, use and practice of Occupational Therapy in Malaysia and the world. This is achieved through programs related to education and research, professional development and promotion, publication, membership drive and quality and standard. All members are obliged to base their professional conduct on the Code of Ethic and professional conduct which was adopted in January 1995. OT MALAYSIA has more than 1000 members. Eighty percents work in government hospital and the rest in privately owned agencies, NGOs and owned practice. They work with clients who need acute and long term care in general hospitals, psychiatric institutions, geriatrics hospitals, and private clinics in the areas of physical dysfunction, psychiatric disorders, pediatrics, community based rehabilitation, home care, geriatric care and occupational health and safety.
Occupational Therapy concerns with Activities of Daily Living, Productivity and Leisure. Individual should have a balance among the three. ADL for instance, personal hygiene, eating, functional mobility, communication, walking, stair climbing, dressing, medication routine and sexual expression. Productivity activities, including work for pay, housework, and educational activities. Leisure activities, which can include socializing, exercising, relaxing, participating in a sport, working on a craft such as painting or needlework, or anything that provides the individual with opportunities for enjoyment, relaxation, recreation, personal growth, and goal achievement.

Welcome to MOTNC 2024 – together, let’s make a difference!

As the president of the Occupational Therapy Association of Malaysia (OT Malaysia) and advisor to the Malaysian National Occupational Therapists National Conference 2024 (MOTNC 2024), I am honoured to extend a warm welcome to each one of you. This year, our gathering is underpinned by a theme that resonates deeply with our professional foundations and aspirations: “Empowering Life Across the Lifespan”.
This theme highlights our collective commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of individuals at every stage of life. It reflects our dedication to understanding the unique challenges and opportunities that arise in supporting diverse populations, from the youngest in our communities who are just embarking on their developmental journeys to the eldest, who deserve to live their later years with dignity and fulfilment.
The MOTNC 2024 serves as a significant platform for us to explore the latest research, innovative practices and evidence-based interventions that are shaping the future of occupational therapy. It is an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogues, exchange knowledge, and foster collaborations that will strengthen our capacity to make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.
As we navigate the complexities of healthcare and rehabilitation, let us remain united in our pursuit of excellence, guided by ethical considerations and a deep understanding of the diverse needs of our clients. Let us also embrace interdisciplinary insights and critical thinking to enrich our practice and advocacy efforts, ensuring that occupational therapy in Malaysia continues to thrive and contribute significantly to the well-being of our society.
I look forward to an inspiring and fruitful conference filled with enlightening sessions, dynamic discussions, and the chance to connect with old friends and new ones. Together, we empower life across the lifespan, reaffirming our role as occupational therapists in fostering health, independence, and joy at every age.
